The Joy Of Walking

by Lee Sok Lian|李淑莲

the-joy-of-walking-1“Peace is every step” --- Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh

This week, I rediscovered the joy of walking. I surrendered the electric buggy --- up until last week, my main means of transportation on the island --- and walk everywhere. After dinner in the evening, I walk for about an hour, sometimes joined by resort guests and friends staying on the island. If you find walking alone boring, find someone to walk with. The walk will seem shorter and less tiring.

Walking everywhere, and deliberately slowing my pace, I take in the island’s fresh air and striking views of the sun sinking below the horizon; new buds opening with the onset of spring, and the first leaves showing; the insect and bird life that I had missed in my haste. Missing nothing now, my senses are awakened. We are surrounded by so much beauty, whichever way we turn.

Count Your Blessings

Now into my 22nd day of performing the 28 gratitude exercises in Rhonda Byrne’s “The Magic” and enjoying success with them, I wish to express my gratitude by sharing the exercise for Day 1: Count Your Blessings.

According to Rhonda Byrne, when you’re grateful for the things you have, no matter how small they may be, you will see those things instantly increase.

Here’s what you do. Write out your list of blessings by hand, type it or use a special book or journal. Keep all of your gratitude in one place. Here are some ideas to start with:

  • I am truly blessed to have ________________, because _________________.
  • I am very happy and grateful for ________________, because ________________.
  • With all my heart, thank you for ___________________________, because ______________.

“The Magic Rock” Gratitude Practice

by Lee Sok Lian|李淑莲

the-magic-rock-gratitude-practiceIn an earlier post, I wrote about the first gratitude practice “Count Your Blessings”. We make a list of ten blessings in our lives which we are grateful for, stating the reasons for our feeling grateful for the blessings.

As we go back and read the list, we say the magic words “thank you, thank you, thank you!” at the end of each blessing, making sure that we feel the gratitude in our hearts. We do this first activity “Count Your Blessings” at the start of the day for 28 days.

At the end of each day, we perform the Magic Rock practice as presented by Lee Brower in “The Secret” film and book.
