Why Let Fear Or Complacency Take Over Our Lives?

by Lee Sok Lian|李淑莲

Once when I was a young man, barely out of college, I had a dream job in an advertising agency, the kind most college grads would kill for.
The trouble was, I wasn’t very happy. I wanted to be happy, but I wasn’t.
I wanted to love my job, but I couldn’t.
To be fair, I’m not sure many other people in my office loved their job much, either. It was a tough gig. A tough, soul-sucking, thankless gig. I was glad to leave, I think most would have been as well.
Since then my career has been solely driven by the need to find work that I love. I’m less worried about money, doing what you love is the easiest way I know of getting paid well.
I don’t think it’s a bad strategy, not at all…

Follow Your Heart. Live Your Dreams.

At a life coaching session this week, my client, a flight attendant with a leading carrier, admitted to her fears of leaving her job with meager savings, and nothing to fall back on. Now in her mid-30s, Julie is currently exploring other options before family commitments get in the way.

A UC Type 8, Julie has the extroverts’ numbers 3 and 4 in the 3rd Eye and Blind Spot positions, making her a more outgoing and extroverted person than most UC Type 8s I know. Julie’s being born in the year of the monkey – the Chinese zodiac animal – adds a certain playfulness, brazenness and restlessness to her nature. She is funny and irreverent, and very quick off the mark in responding to my questions.

For The Best Results, Harness The Right Talents For The Job!

In an earlier post dated 12 July 2014 titled “Universal Character (UC) Type 1s --- Extroverted And Charismatic Leaders Take Charge Of New Community Outreach Program”, I wrote:

“The three UC Type 1 managers will take charge of the planning, preparation and execution of the entire project. Since all three of them speak the local dialects, they would have no problems making contact with the relevant authorities at the start of the project, and seeing it through to completion.

Within three days, the program was drawn up, the main participants informed, and the most important details looked into. All we need to do now is wait for the go-ahead from the relevant authorities. Why did I choose Type 1s to head the project?

More Business Owners And Bosses Amongst Introverted And Introspective UC Types 6, 7, 8 and 9

When I first started doing this work, I did not always make myself clear. This led to some confusion, with a number of clients mistaking introversion for shyness. These days, I make sure that my clients understand the difference between shyness and introversion. Introverts prefer solitary to social activities but do not fear social encounters like a shy person does. People are not automatons and do not always act according to their type all the time. We do not always behave in ways that are predictable or rational.

“In any case, people fluctuate in their behavior all the time, and even extreme introverts and extraverts do not always act according to their type.” ---
